Jon’s Mode Lab is a personal, non-commercial AI experiment lab. All tools here are individual VibeCoding practice projects — free to use, with no ads, no paid features, and no plans for commercialization. This policy exists simply to explain, transparently, how your data is handled.

This policy applies to all services provided by Jon’s Mode Lab (modelab.top), including the website, web tools, and the SyncMode and ScreenMode browser extensions.
Privacy & Data Collection
Minimal Data Approach
I respect your privacy. I do not collect personal identification information unless explicitly provided by you (e.g., via account registration or email feedback).
Account Information
When you register for services such as SyncMode (bookmark sync), I collect:
- Email address — used solely for account authentication and password recovery.
- Password — stored as a one-way bcrypt hash. I cannot read or recover your original password.
- I do not collect your name, phone number, location, or any other personal information during registration.
Cookies & Local Storage
Our web tools use local storage and cookies only to save functional preferences (e.g., city selection, UI theme). This data remains on your device.
The SyncMode extension and sync.modelab.top use a single HttpOnly session cookie (sync_session) for authentication. This cookie is:
- Secure (HTTPS only)
- HttpOnly (not accessible to JavaScript)
- Used solely to maintain your login session
- Valid for 180 days unless you log out or change your password
I do not use any tracking cookies or advertising cookies.
Analytics
The website may use basic, anonymized traffic statistics, purely out of the author’s curiosity about how these experiments are being used. No personally identifiable tracking is conducted.The SyncMode browser extension contains no analytics, telemetry, or tracking code of any kind.
SyncMode & Bookmarks Data
The SyncMode browser extension accesses your browser bookmarks solely for the purpose of cross-browser synchronization. Specifically:
- The extension reads your bookmark structure (titles, URLs, folder paths, and position/order) to detect changes.
- When a change is detected, it is transmitted to our server and synchronized to your other browsers.
- Bookmark data is stored in a MySQL database on our own server (ConoHa Wing, located in Japan). No third-party cloud storage service is used.
- I do not analyze, profile, sell, or share your bookmark data with anyone.
Data Transmission
When you explicitly sync your data, your bookmark structure is transmitted securely via HTTPS. All communication between the extension and the server is encrypted in transit.
Email Service
For password recovery, i send emails from noreply@modelab.top via SMTP. The email contains only a one-time password reset link that expires in 1 hour. I do not use any third-party email marketing service.
No Third-Party Sharing
I do not sell, trade, or share your personal information, bookmark data, webpage content, or screenshots with any third party, period. There is nothing to monetize here — this is a non-commercial project. Your data is used exclusively to provide the features you requested.
Data Control & Deletion
You maintain full control over your synced data:
- You can delete individual bookmarks at any time through normal browser operations; deletions are synced across your devices.
- You can log out from the extension to disconnect a browser from your account.
- To permanently delete your account, log in to your dashboard and select “Delete Account.” This will immediately and irreversibly remove your account along with all stored bookmark data (including synced bookmarks, sync history, and login sessions) from our server. Bookmarks already saved in your local browser will not be affected.
Extension Permissions Explained
The SyncMode extension requests only the minimum permissions necessary:
- bookmarks — Required to read and modify your browser bookmarks for synchronization.
- storage — Required to store your login session state and sync timestamps locally in the browser.
- alarms — Required to schedule periodic background sync (every 30 minutes).
- cookies — Required only so the extension can keep your own login session active when communicating with the sync server. The extension never reads cookies from any other website.
The extension does not request access to your browsing history, tabs, downloads, or any other browser data.
ScreenMode & Screenshot Data
The ScreenMode browser extension allows users to capture a complete webpage as a PNG image.
ScreenMode accesses the content of the currently active webpage only after the user explicitly clicks the capture button. The webpage is temporarily scrolled and captured solely to create the requested full-page screenshot.
All screenshot capture, image processing, and image stitching take place locally within the user’s browser and device. Screenshots, webpage content, page URLs, and page titles are not uploaded to Jon’s Mode Lab servers or transmitted to any third party.
The completed PNG image is saved directly to the user’s device through the browser’s download function. Temporary screenshot data is removed from browser memory after the capture is completed, cancelled, or fails.
ScreenMode does not require an account or login. It contains no advertising, analytics, telemetry, behavioral tracking, or marketing code. It does not sell, share, profile, or allow human access to webpage content or screenshots.
ScreenMode stores only the user’s language preference locally in the browser. This preference is not transmitted externally and can be removed by clearing the extension’s data or uninstalling the extension.
ScreenMode Permissions
ScreenMode requests only the permissions required for its full-page screenshot feature:
- activeTab — Accesses only the webpage currently selected by the user after the user activates ScreenMode.
- scripting — Runs the temporary capture process on the active webpage.
- downloads — Saves the completed PNG screenshot to the user’s device.
- offscreen — Processes and combines screenshot sections locally without uploading them.
ScreenMode’s use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Any webpage content handled by ScreenMode is used exclusively to provide the user-requested screenshot feature.
